THE STORSTAD.
6000-TON NORWEGIAN COLLIER
The Storstad, which rammed and sank the Empress of Ireland, was a bijj cargo steamer of 6028 tons gross and 3561 tons not register, her dimensions being:—Length 440 feet; beam, 58.1 feet, depth of hold. 24.6 feet. She is a comparatively new steamer, having been buit+ ii 1910 by Messrs Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd., at Newcnstle-on-Tyne, England. She flew the Norwegian flag, her owners being Messrs A. F. Klaveness and Co.. Christianin, Norway, who control 23 largo cargo steamers. The master of the Storstad was Captain M. A. Andres°n.
Fully loaded, her dead weight capacity was probably JiOOO tons, and the impact of the collision, even if the Storstad was going dead slow, as is probnb'o it 1..-ing y e ry foggy, must have been terrific.
