CHRISTCHURCH MUSICAL SOCIETY.
The Christchurch Musical Society's first subscription concert, which is to bo hold in His Majesty's Theatre cm Tuesday evening, June tfth. promises to be attractive and interesting. Ora-torio-lovers will again havo the opportunity of hearing and enjoying .uendelssohn's "Elijah,*' under the leadership of Mr W. Handel Thorley, who co ably conducted tho Orchestral Society at its recent successful concert. Great interest will be aroused in tho reappearance of Madame Gowcr-liurns, tho wellknown soprano singer, and Mr John Prouse, tho noted bass, both of whose support guarantees a successful concert in itself. Tho contralto part is to bo taken by Mrs Rachacl rirth, whoso singing should bo much appreciated, and with Mr William Jones as tenor, there is every prospect of a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The management have decided to allow a limited numtn>r of tickets to the public. Tho box plan opens at Milner and Thompson's on Thursday. Juno Ith. at 3 p.m.
