Although the dramatist, Soya Elyarts, having to meet etagb exigencies, has departed somewhat from tho original manuscript of ''Undo Tom's Cabin" to be submitted by George Willoughby'e now Dramatic Company at tho Theatre Koyal on Monday next, there is a wealth of pathos and human interest in tho piece, and an abundance of humour, too, tho greater portion being supplied by Topsy,.a. role taken by Miss Nell Holroyd with, great success. 'J.ne opening scene 6hows the slaves of fc>t. Clair, the honest slave owner, at work on his plantation, and is said to bo A very effective scene. Ino appearance of Simon Legree follows, and one is treated to a little of his devilry when he tries to induce St., Clair to sell mm a quadroon girl tho latter owns, threatening, unless ho docs so, to close on a mortgage ho holds over tuo property. The quadroon is married, and St. Clair tolls Legree that in all his slave dealings ho has made it a practice never to separate husband and wifo or parents from children. '-Oh, you aro too soft to bo a slave.dealer: you ought to bo a missionary," j s Legreo's retort. Iho story of how Eliza, fcho quadroon, overhears Legree s demand for her, her attempt to escape across iuo frozen river into Canada, where she will bo free, is said to bo well told." Many effective settings follow, among them, boing'tho horrors of a slave sale, death of little Eva, martyrdom of Uncle Tom, the bloodhounds and fugitivo slaves, and tho death of Legree.
