TIMARU HARBOUR.
REDUCTION OF RATE.

TLMARU, May 29. The Timaru Harbour Board decided, after a long discussion, to reduce the aarbour' rate this year .. from 3-16 th of a penny in the ,'£ to l-Bth of a penny. Last j'ear s rate produced £10,742, and it is" esti mated that the new rate will produce £7460—a reduction of £3282. Five members of tho BoaTd were.opposed to. the reduction, which was nroposed by the chairman (Mr F. J. Rolleston). Good progress is being made'with the work of. adding 500 feet to the eastern extension at Timaru harbour, and at a meeting of the Timaru Hffcrhour Board to-day the • ported that the work, which was estimated to cost £20.000. was now more than -half done, and the cost to date was £6500. This announcement was received with considerable pleasure by members of tho Board.
