LEESTON STOCK SALE.
Tho weather was fine for the Lceston sale yesterday, and there was a fair attendance of farmers, and a good jarding of stock. Entries comprised sheep (337 ewes, 451 lambs, and 4b wethers), 172 fat pigs, let store pigs, and 67 head of cattle. Fat stock genorallv, with the exception of pigs, Bold very" well, and values remained quite firm all round. Enquiries for fat lambs were keon. but only a tew well-forward lots were offered, and these vera oagerly bought up. Fat pig buyers were not operating too freely, owing to the over supply which usually occurs at this period of tho year, and business, in consequence, was rather dull, values suffering accordingly. In some instances vendors were disinclined to sell, btore pigs, on the other hand, sold very well, the margin between fats and stores being comparatively small. This is duo to the fact that farmers realise that the present over supply of fats is only temporary-, and that tne market wiU return to normal in a short time. A noticeable feature of the sale was tno demand for the better class of dairy cattle, while stores were rather difficult to sell, owing to the feed prospects. The range of values was as follows: — Fat lambs 15s Gd to lba sd, fat ewes 12s 4d to 19s 9d, forward wethers 14s 5d to 17s 6d. macon pigs 60s to 70s 6d (equal to' 5d per lb), porkers 27s »o 46s 6d (equal to s\d per lb), choppers to 82s 6d, largo stores 24s to 33s (id, small 9s 3d to 15s 6d. sows in pig £4, fat cows £5 15s to £10, springers £3 12s to -£8, a line of seven springers ernt in by Mr \V.
