AUDIENCE WITH KING PROMISED.
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.)
LONDON, May 27.
The Hon. T. Mackenzie accompanied the Maori "King" and his suite on a visit to Sir John Gorst, who is recruiting his health at. Margate.
Thero was an affecting meeting between Sir John Gorst and Taingakawa, whose father saved Sir John's lifo during tho Maori war.
Mr Mackenzie tc-day introduced the Maoris to Mr L. V. Harcourt, Secretary of State for the Colonies, who promised to assist them in securing an audience with tho King, on the understanding that it- was a purely courtesy call, and no grievances were discussed.
Mr Mackenzie explained tho constitutional position, and the Maoris now understand that Mr Barcourt and tha King will receive them as bearers of historic names.
