CHRIST'S COLLEGE.

CIRCULAR FROM MR BELCHER

The following circular letter has been sent by Mr E. A. Belcher to parents of puttils at Christ's College. Xt is dated School House, Christ's College, 26th May: —

"I regret to inform you tliat after careful consideration I havo to-day handed in to tho Governing Body my resignation as headmaster. Tho latter have accepted tho resignation, which, at my request, will tako effect immediately.

"For some time past there has been a serious divergence of opinion between myself and tho majority of tho Board upon questions affecting tho general administration of the school. Matters were brought to a head by tho action of a section of parents who were out of sympathy with my aims and methods, and my resignation was the only solution of the difficulty.

"At the present juncture of affairs I am desirous above all things to refrain from saying anything which can embarrass my successor or, even indirectly, do damage to the school. Individuals may come and go, but tho life of a school rises on to a higher plane. No man can have weaved himself into the life of Christ's Colle<re, even for a brief eighteen months, without being intensely conscious of its history, its opportunities, and its future, It is something to have lived awhile in and for such a community, and to have shared its rich and full life. It will always remain my happiest recollection that'l was once its headmaster. "The administration ot tho school will, for tho present, remain in the hands of mv friend and lato colleague, Mr Flower " The school house \v«]l bo administered by Mr button Carter, .who has not only been my house-tutor for tho pa*t twelve months, but was for many previous years my raithful friend and 'colleague in F-nsb.nd. "T commend these arrangements to your earnest support, and 1 mast earnestly be-' that you will use your utmost efforts to assist through a time of cbvioius difficulty the rfuool which wo all lovo."
