A POPULAR BOWLER.
(SPECIAL. TO "THE PRESS.")
WELLINGTON. May 27. Mr Orton Stevens was ono of «.ue most popular bowling skips. A keen sense of loss of a warm friend is carried by many citizens in "Wellington and districts to-day., owing to tlio death of Mr Stevens. He was big and brisk in physique,. active in mind, and bright and breezy. His, presence was •always a stimulus, his personality was essentially galvanic, positively electrical, with no patience for pessimism. His circle of friends widenea nnturally by the human qualities which, endeared him to those noar him. He had, too, that power of giving his opinion with absolute uncompromising frankness, without any unpleasantness, and therefore the differences at meetings of local bodies left no bitterness. Many, will remember Mr Stevens as a successful business man, but the groat majority of his friends will ratiier cherish the, memory of ono who did put some sunshine into the lives of other people. Unselfishness, kindness, a • habit <-f" gladly doing thing* for other people, theso were the chief traits of a good citizen. |
