The Assemblies of the Established and Free Churches, at Edinburgh, discussed the Established Committee's draft scheme for union.
tx>rd Balfour of Bnrleigh, who presided over tho meeting of the Established Assembly, said it was almost unthinkable that tho two Churches, haring so much in common, should stand apart.
Both Assemblies passed a resolution approving of the 6chemo as a basis for further negotiations.
An emcndniont moved in the Freo Church Assembly that disestablishment must ho antecedent to union, was negatived overwhelmingly.
