Patrick Hcaley, who has had two previous convictions recorded against him within the past six weeks, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found druuk yesterday oii the station -platform. The Bench imposed a fino of 20s, or in default imprisonment for 14 days. "(Samuel Brooking was given judgment against Reuben Whitford for tha 60m of £5 on a valueless che<pae. Plaintiff •stated that the cheque was signed by Thomas Hardy, of Ash burton, who had given it to..Whitford, inpayment for. a ■x)Uie. Plaintiff, not knowing that Wnrdy'e account was overdrawn, gave Whiti'ord five sorereigns on the chequo, -whfih presented, turned out valueless. He added that he felt Gorry for Whit ford, and had only brought the matter before the Bench in to protect himself. Tho Bench remarked that Whitford •was rather unfortunate, but as he had given an endorsement be had made himself responsible for the money.
