(special to "tub TRESS.") AUCKLAND,' May 26. • A sharp advance took plac9 to-day in both Waihi and Talisman Consolidated shares. In the case of the latter .stock, the rise was,due no doubt to values having come in again in the winsse at the lowest level, thus putting an end to the fear that a barren stratum had been reached. Whatever was the cause, Talismans, which on May 15th Bold as low as 35s.Cd, were placed this morning up to 30s 3d. At the noon call further 'sales were made at from 38s 6d to 395, .with buyers left offering 38s 9d, while at tho afternoon call they sold up to 39a 6d. Waihi shares .also hnd. good business. A little while ago these shares'were as low as 425; but. sales opened this'morning at 45s Cd, and by noon'47s and 465, 9d had been paid. Rumours have been ripe about a great improvement in the values,of the Edward lodo at the lowest' level.' Thero were still buyers left at'46s 9d at the close .of .the'noon-call, but holders asked another threepence, and-at the afternoon call the same rates ruled.
Other mining shares were unchanged, with tho excerption - that Ro?s Goldfields " were offered as low as'Ss sd, but tho buying, quotation waa only 3s' 3d. Although the New Waitaia got an excellent return of JE1360 froru j 12-1 ton?,. still these shares were not enquired for this morning. Investment' stocks still hold the high values recently noteQ. Bank of New-Zealand,! fully-paid--, issue,- were enquired for.to-day at £17. Is 6d, and National Banks were tin request at £5 125.6 d. Insurance stocks were'ail in demand at late rates, but no sales were reported.
