OFFICER LIBELLED.
AWARDED £3000 DAMAGES
(By Cable.—Press Aaaociatiop.—Copyright.) LONDON, May 25. Captain. Kemp, in his libel action asainst Mr Yexley, editor of tho "Fleet," secured a verdict for £3000 damages. A stay of proceedings was refused. Mr , Yexley , admitted that he had only investigated the men's ease, And did not ask for explanations from'Cap-.-tain Kemp. He stated that Lord Fisher and Mr McKenna had thanked him for his services to the Navy.
The judge ii> summing up, protested against the increase in tbo pernicious habit of trial by newspaper. Yexley'e was the most ragged plea* of justification he had ever seen. If Captain Kemp were a strict disciplinarian, tho jury must say whether ho was blameworthy for any discontent on board the London.
