AUSTRALIAN CELEBRATIONS.
SPEECHES BY PROMINENT 1 MEN

SYDNEY, May 26.
Speeches wcro delivered at the dinners of tho Empire League, the newly-formed branch of tho Colonial Institute and at other Empiro Day function, by the Governor-General (Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson), the Stato Governors, the Hon. J. Cook (Federal Prime Minister), Admiral Sir George Patey and other prominent people, who expressed appreciation at tho growing Imperial and Australian national sentiments, and the importance of the local navy and cadet system.
Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson declared that life was all too short for Empire service. Australia was the Empire's one child of peace, yet sho had grasped thoroughly the sure way to preserve that blessing.
Admiral Patey said that whatever happened, the fact remained that Ausr tralia now had an efficient fleet; quite small, but efficient. Australians should feel proud of possessing a fleet which was materially useful m defending a great Empire. 4
