DRAFTING POLICE INTO ULSTER.
BATONS THEIR ONLY WEAPONS. THE GOVERNORSHIP OF IRELAND. (Received May 2oth, tf.45 p.m.) LONDON, May 24. Tho consignment of bayonets seized at Dublin on Thursday has been released and handed over to iho consignee. Tho Irish Constabulary in Roseommon havo received orders to stop all leave, as the men aro wanted for duty in the Counties of Donegal and Fermanagh. They wHI not carry rifles, only batons.
A number of police from Leinsior counties have also been drafted into Ulster.
Tho "Sunday Timtw" says the Cabinet sounded the Duko of Connaught 33 to his willingness to accept the Lord-Lieutenancy of Ireland, but ho will give no answer until ho leaves Canada ami confers with tho King. Tho paper adds that it is not generally known that Queen Victoria recommended his Appointment to Ireland, but abandoned the idea because of the risk of involving tho Crown party in. politics. Tho feeling in Ireland now ie that the Lord-Lieutenant should not tako sides.'
