OPERA HOUSE.
There were several good features in the new programme presented by tho i 'Uller-L*?nnan Vaudeville Company at the Opera House last night, and" the various turns were receiv-ed with enthusiasm by a crowded audience. Carlton Max, an exceedingly clever ventriloonist, delighted the audienro by his clean work with his ''speaking" partner, whose droll patter, songs, and antics convulsed his hearers, tho turn being one of tho best on the programme. Herr Ernest Max was another pertqrmer who gained much appluuso for his musical monologues, and lind to respond to several recalls. Although rather long drawn-out, the farcical comedy sketch, "The Wigmakers," presented by Dennis Carney, drew loud laughter from the audience, and fully justified his reappearance in vaudeville in Chnstehurch. He gave several other good turns which were well received. Elsie Knowles, ballad vocalist, ti? mat *°. a welcome reappearance; Jolly Marie, in her impersonation* of vaudeville, stars; Dorothy Harris, "the ragtime streak"; and Moran and Lanul, wore greeted as warm favourites, and wero all recalled. Phillips and Merntt repeated their tango dance,' and gave several ragtime songs with great success. The programme will be repeated to-night, and on Saturday n special matinee will be given. 'The tango lessons are attended by largo numbers of learners at tho morning and afternoon sessions. The tango competitions will take placo in tho Opera House on Tuesday, June 2nd, and Thursday, June 4th, tho plans opening at Milner and Thompson's on Thursday next, at 9 a.m.
