(Before Captain R. Hatch well. J.P., and Mr W. C. Cleary, J.P.) RESISTING THE POLICE. John Corkin, alias Duffell, was charged with-CD being found drunk in Canterbury street, (2) with using obscene language, (3) with resisting Constablo Thomas iv tho execution of Uis duty.
Hβ pleaded guilty to all tnrce charges.
Senior-Sergeant Ryan stated that, in consequence of Mrs Duffel complaining thnt her husband had assaulted her, Constable Thomas proceeded to Canterbury street, where, after a struggle with accused, who made use of ob-scene language, the constable succeeded in arresting him.
At this stage Mrs Biiffel stood -up in Court and denied having complained to the police that the accused assaulted her, but was ordered to sit down.
Corkin, ou tho charge of drunken- , enss, was convicted and discharged; on that of using obscene language ho was fined £5, or, in default, ono month's imprisonment; and on the remaining charge ho was fined 40s, with the alter-
native of fourteen days , imprisonment, tie sentences to be concurrent. ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE. Samuel Eamm, a steward, belonging to tho »s. Westmcath, pleaded guilty to a charge of being absent on April 23 rd, without leave. Ho was fined the amount of two d. ys , pay, and ordered to be placed on board the vessel before sailing time.
