IRWELL.
Upon learning that Mr A. Gaw, stationmaster nt Ellesmere, had been transferred to Riccarton, tjie officebearers of the Irwell Presbyterian Church at once set to work to arrange for a farewell social. Their efforts were entirely successful, and a good gathering of friends assembled in tho Irwell school to say good-bye to Mr, Mrs, and Miss Gaw. * The Rev. R. H. Blair presided, and a programme of musical and elocutionary items was given by Mrs Blair, Misses Kibblewhito, Alma Donald, Gaw, and Eva McLaughlin, Rev. Blair, and Mr J. Buick. The chairman spoko of the great interest the guests had taken >"_• the Irwell Church, and of the help each had given to him personally. Mr Gaw had been choirmaster from the opening of the services, and Miss Gaw had most conscientiously filled the position of organist. On behalf of Presbyterian and other friends in tho district, Mr Blair presented Miss Gaw with a handsome gold bangle. All present wished the guests a happy future in their new home.
