BARQUE ABANDONED.
BALLAST SHIFTS IN STORM. CREW SCUTTLE HER BEFORE LEAVING. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received May 22nd, 9.30 p.m.) HOBART, May 22. Tho steamer Wainui arrived at Straclian. to-daly with Captain Monson and tho officers and crew of tfio barque Svonor aboard. The barque was previously reported to be on fire twelve miles west of Mount Heemskuk.
The Svenor was on route from Fremantlo to Newcastle, in ballast. When twenty-two days out tho ballast ehilted. and she was thrown on her beam ends. Tho maste had to he cut away, and eho drifted for nearly a fortnight till sighted by tho Wainui. \ An attempt to tow her failed, and it was decided to abandon her. Prior to tho crew leaving, in order to prevent her being dangerous to navigation, tho Svenor was scuttled and eofc on fire. Tho crow left in boats, and were picked up by tho Wainui.
