Leader of tho Opposition, but the Liberals, on tho ground that Mr Baifour should reply, refused to hear him. They shouted "Baifour." "The Prime and "Wo won't hear you," and Mr Lyttelton stood at tho table for some time trying to get a hearing. Tho Deputy-Speaker (.Mr Lovther, who is now Speaker.) appealed to tho House to hear tho Colonial Secretory, but. without avail. A Liberal member then a«ke"u tho Deputy-Speaker whether he of a»y occasion on whin'n aPrime Minister -whoso honour had bee 1 challenged (as Mr Baifour s had been) hud not at once risen to reply. Tno Deputy Speaker said this was not a point of order, and again appealed to tho House to listen to Mr Lyttelton. The Liberals, however, refused to do so. and Sir Henry Campbell-Banner-man said that Mr Baifour must goo t>nt he must make a statement if the debate was to proceed. There is, however, no record in tho report in "The Times" of any appeal by the Donuty Speaker to ■ tho Learl*>r> of the Opposition personally. Mr Lowther appealed to tho House and to tho Opposition as a party.
