KINCAID'S LTD.
SOCIAL GATHERING OF STAFF,
The staff of Kincaid's. Ltd., wero tho guests of tho company at a social gathering held in the Cadena tea rooms ljist evening. jPracticaily the whole of the forty members of the staff were present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent.
Mr T. Kincaid, managing director ci tho company, at th© commencement of tho proceedings, said that two years ago tho staff -were the guests of th© managing director at a social, but last year none was held. This year tho'matter was left to. tho shareholders, and it was unanimously-decided that the cmplovecs should again be invited_ to a' -social gathering. Tt was tho wish <<f tho shareholders that they should all have' "a jolly evening." He was especially pleased to see so many ladies present-, no gathering was complete without them. On looking hack over tho past thirty years he was rorninded of the very -small staff they had in the early-days—there were then practically no assistants. Glancing around him'at tho room .tilled with devoted servants of the company,' he felt very proud to bo the head of such a business and.of such a i?taff. It was especially pleasing to him to note'that some ; .of those present had been, iv tho service of the firm for twenty years and more. Many had been in the business since they left school: others had served the company ever since their arrival in the Dominion many years ago.. These employees had largely helped in making tne business what it was, and no doubt they-were entitled to consideration. - "
Mr Kincaid continued that it was with the object of admitting employees as shareholders tha'fc the business' had been formed into a private company. As they were awaro, several members of the staff had been taken into - the company. Though* it-was'not possible at present, ho would like to see every member of the staff a shareholder. ■•>
Referring to the' provisional committee (an organisation whose objects were to act, thoroughly acquainteo! with the business, to make suggestions to' the management, reporting as. to leakage.: waste, incompetency, etc.) he said he ivn:i!d like to see soino of tho staff., outfade the shareholders, becoming-mem-ber.? of that body. The shareholders would get a direct benefit in increased profits, the work would be inierestinc as well as edncat'onal to thos© engaged in it. and their efforts would materially affect the welfare of the employees. Ho did not tlrnk thero was anydoubt-that t,h«- moth'»ds of t>o firm had improved, kilt 'riiere was still olentv of room for further improvement, if every employee Hid ■ his-work frnthfnilv and I ;attended to. all these details whi"h mad© business a plea-Mire and created confidonce with thoMD y. ho -were transacting business wfMi th-> firm.--(Annlause.) .'.-■•■ thp o-eft-ij-T.fr enrtfru were f*iv«>n by Messrs A.
