MUNICIPAL GOLF LINKS FOR WELLINGTON.
It was Dr. Cameron, an ex-member of tho Wellington City Council, who on hii> return from England last year, strongly urged that Wellington City should go in for municipal golf links. Th'o proposition did not fall-on deaf ears, and in casting about fcT a euitab'e location for links, a portion of tho Town belt, eituated not far from tho Roy; Hoili-erMary Joseph Aubcrt's Home of Compaseiorn <*t Island Bay, was deemed to bo worth looking at by those interested.
This block of belt lies roughly between the old Plague Hospital and-the Homo of Compassion, and is above tho Duppa 6treet grounds. Tho spot was visited recently by a" section of the Reserves Committee, who had with them persons interested in golf. Thoso intimated to tho membera of the committee that the- sit© was almost ideal for golf links, and that the cost of preparing them for play would be inconsiderable.
Simpson, tho proicseional golf player, who has looked over tho ground, approves of the location as one well supplied with natural bunkers, and being within easier reach of the city than any other links. Tho outcome of tho enquiries will (eay3 tho "Dominion") probably be a recommendation to the- Council to form golf links at th© placo indicated.
