AKAROA.
.The fortnightly meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong) aud'Crs. Lewitt, Vangioni. Wjiiker. Cantrell. Muuro, and Leete.
Correspondence was rend from A. Riches asking permission to lav a drain pipe under the footpath from her property.—Granted.
The Oddfellows'. Hall Committee wrote applying for a liconse for the public hall. Pending certain improvements in-the fire escape, the license was granted for oue month, alteration to ho made in the meantime.
The Puidic Trustee, Cnris-tehurch, wrote applying for transfers of town property to L.- J. Vangioni and G. h'rederickseu, with amendments of valuation roll.—Granted.
An application for a carrier's license was granted to J. Kerridgo. With regard to an account for extraordinary water supply, tho Anglicau .Cemetery Board wrote stating-that'tho excessive amount used had been caused by a faulty ballcocic, and risking a remission on the account. —lleierred to Waterworks Committee.
The Akaroa Fire Brigade wrote asking for a 5-years'.hervica' medal for i Fireniau J. Pool; also that the aphpointment of N. Pilkingbon to a vaci ancy in the brigade bo approved. On I the recommendation of the Fire i Brigade Committee the rcouests were j granted. The Works Committee reported having inspected Smith street and recommended that the Btreot be graded. Tho committee also recommended that the foreman's wages he increased, to £4 per week.—Adopted. The report of the Lighting Committee stated.they wero rxnabio to accede to tho request of J. Vangioni for electrical energy at 2d per unit, and that the .charges bo 3d for the first 1000 units, with a reduction of Id for greater quantities: also that all motors over 5 h.p. be metered. Mr R. Powrie, contractor for Daly's wharf, applied for progress payment of £76 4s od, which, on the recommendation of the Borough engineer, was granted. It was resolved that the new pavilion on Daley's wharf be lighted, that a lamp be erected on the" wharf, and that" tne pipe lino from Grehan Valley creek to the reservoir be proceeded with at once.
It- was deckled, as an alternative to the Council taking legal proceedings, that occupiers of nouses having chimneys on fire pay the expenses of the brigade turning out.
