CONDITIONS IN AUSTRALIA.

LONDON, May 20. At tho Health Conference, tho Hon. Charles MacKellar's paper on "Infancy and Health" analysed tho New South Wales conditions, and the preventive measures to preserve child life, and also referred to the Federal maternity bonefit which, tho paper stated, would ultimately be valuablo in reducing infantile mortality.

"Mr MacKellar commended South Australia's system for the supervision of illegitimates. !

Bishop Frodsham, in introducing the paper, paid a tribute to Mr MacKellar's work, and said that much of the beneficial legislation was the outcome of his efforts.

Lord Chelmsford gave an address on the educational problem. He advocated the extension of continuation schools and the giving of literary work in tbo morning and manual training in the afternoon.

Dr. Trilby King (New Zealand) reai a paper on "Infancy and Health."
