The Linwood School Committee mtt on Wednesday evening. Present—Messrs AY. H. Penton (chairman!, E. Carter, 11. F. Herbert, TV, Young, Cr. Phillips, R. Ellis, \V. J. J«nkin, O. B. Gundry, and H. J. Jainieson (bon. secretary). The Education Board wrote enclosing the inspector c report, which was very creditable, and the chairman congratulated the headmaster and staff on tho ro"eults obtained. A hearty veto of thanks was paseed to Mr IL F. Herbert for his past services as hon. secretary, and wae unanicarried It vrua decided to hold the committee- meetings en tho recond Wednesday in euch month. The Education Board wroto and stated that as from May 9th, 191-1, the name of the school would bo known as the Linwood School. Tho ster reported'that the roll number at piesent is 5-GO, and tho liverago attendance 520. Tae householders of the Linwood School district, tho report stated, would bo pleased to know that the .infant school was in coiueo of erection, also that the marquee now used had been fitted up with two patent coke heaters for the coining winter. It was decided to hold several concerts during the coming winter in aid of the fund for improving tho school grounds. Mesara .W. J. Jenkin and G. B. Gundry vrere appointed a Visiting Committee- for the iiret term. Tho rlret of a series of social ■ evenings arranged by the Sydenham Football Club was held on Tuesday evening in tho clubrcoms, tho function, taking tho form of a progressive euchre tournament. A large number of the members and iheir friends wero present. Tho winner of tho tournament proved to bo Mr Prasmell, who eecured-tbo given by Mr W. uritten. Musical item? were contributed by Jfeera 11. C, HarrieouT. A. E. Doell, C. Johnston,- V?. Clemens, Cudden. and Marshall.
A very successful concert -viae given in the Parish Schoolroom, VhiUhrtow. rr> T-μ----day night, by the Phillipstown Entertainers, before a large and appreciative ■aua-.ejiee. -uj r.nd Mrs Butts ijresented a delightful couxdictta entitled "A Summer Cloud." Musical items were contributed by Miswe Veitch oud Ensor and Mr ,Hardey. a charming d.ance waa given by Misses Brown and Watscn, and a gipsy sccno by the Sunday Schooj scholars. Tie second part of the programme was devoted to the very amusing comedy, "Dearest Mamma," tho parts bsing ably taken by Misses M. Ensoi, a>. Eneor, and L. Bailey, Messrs S. Betts, 33. F. TVillcox. P. At the annual ineetinp of the Scottish Society, the report and balance-sheet ior the year ending March, 31et, 1914, were read and approved. 'Ac president of the Beckenham-Fisherton Residents' Association (Mr Large) presided at the mouthly meeting. The Heathcote County Council wrote acknowledging tho receipt of the protest againet the drainage of septic tanks inw tho Heathcoio river.
