MEETING OF NEW BRIGHTON COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the newly-formed New Brighton branch of tho Fresh-air Homes for Children was held in the Council Chambors last night. Mr C. H. Opie presided. Tho meeting was well attended.

As a preliminary etop it was suggested that subscription lists be opened forthwith. -Mr Haniber Kiid tliat a good, idea would bo to divide tho iNow Brighton streets, of which there aro twenty-four, into a canvassing area. The following ladies wero appointed a Canvassing Committee: —Mrs C. H» Winny, Mrs G. W. Staniland, Mi's -E. Blake, Mrs O'Donncll, Mrs Eastwood, Miss Musgrave, Mrs Baker, v. Hamber, Miss Gilmour, and Mrs Hood. Streets wo.ro set apart to each of the ladies, either to work in groups or singly. Dr. Stevens said that wherever tho proposed Homo might bo placed, it certainly would not bo near tho eea, as tho winds from tho sea were pronounced by exports to bo unsuitable for consumptives. The locality for tho Homo would undoubtedly be inland.

Mr Opio said ho thought tho Home should bo built at an altitude of about 1000 feet above eea-lcvcl, and inland. Mr W. Graham, on behalf of tho committee of the Presbyterian Hall Trustees, offered the use of the hall free to tho committee tor the purpose of holding entertainments in aid of funds. The ofter v.as gratefully accepted. On Mr Hamber's motion, which was supported by Dt. Stevens, it was decided to form an Entertainment committee, who would deal with all entertainments and gatherings held in aid of the funds, and tho following gentlemen were appointed a committee :—Messrs C. Isrnelson, J. Ashley, A. P. Hopkins, G. "W. Bishop. E. Eastwood, P. "Winter, and E. Tillyshort. The committee arranged ,to meet again on Thursday, Juno 4th.
