The half-yearly meeting of the Star of Ashburtou Lodgt of Druids was held on Monday evening, wiien A.D. ±sro. M. Moreau presided over a Jargo attendance of members. An appeal from a North Island lodge for the widow of a deceased brother was met by a vote from _the distress fund. Tho i).P. for No. <5 District (Bio. McAnergney, oi Tiroani), who was received with Druidic , honours, congratulated tho lodge on the progress it was making, and on tlio manner in which the business wa& conducted.

At the Ashburlon County Hospital on Tuesday aiternoou tho Matron (Miss E. M. Morley), who is leaving on a visit of six months fo England and Monto Video, was entertained by the members of tho Board, and the chairman (Mr Hugo Fiicd'.anderi, on behalf of tho members of tho Board, presented her with a purse of sovereigns. Speaking at a Gathering at the Ashburt/oo County Hospital, tlio liev. J. 11. Burgin said that ho had been in

many parts of the Dominion, and had visited many hospitals, and he could say that-for a town.mo size of Ashbrivton, Ashburton had a hospital second to none in New Zealand.
