CHRISTIANITY AND WAR
TO THE EDITOE. OF "THE. TREiS.'' Sir.— It is only to be expected nowadays that a follower of the Prince of Pea/c; .should address a .sermon to a Christian churchful of roldicrs. N.t is it at all surprising to 'lind a Christian gentleman telling us that tho remedy for war w.is J (m<. Christ, whiki at the same time admitting that after LtlOO years (of Christianity) war and tumult and persecution were si ill here. Christian gentlemeu ofteu &jiy such things. But it certainly is surprising to near a Christian (and .% hand of a college, too!) telling a congregation <>i soldiers that they represented "men who fought with right ou their side for the oppressed, and because they knew that God_ Almighty had work for them to do which no other nation could do.' . Now, Sir, with all duo respect to my Christian friend, may I be allowed, through your columns, to ask him how iid those men " know what Almighty God had for them to do? . And \tfion may I ask him why' it. was impossible for anj other nation to do this thing if God Almighty wanted it done? To mc, it seems rather blasphemous :o say that God needed the. help of British soldiers, or else Ho could not do what Sβ wanted to see done. 1 ' sincerely hope that my Christian friend will give mo au answer, for I am, sir,—Yours, TRULY PERPLEXED.
