The conference of the Railway Clerks' ■Association, comprising 29,000 members, eiftiug at Edinburgh, protested against, the action of Lord Claude Hamilton, chairman of directors of the Great Eastern Company, in importing an American manager for tho company, and condemned tho '''nepotism, favouritism, and close departmental system which prevented clerks obtaining promotion."
The conference advocated publicownership of the land, mines, and railways., and other monopolies.
