ST. PAUL'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
CALL TO BEY. J. PATEP.SON, M.A
At a largely-attended meeting of the congregation of St. Paul"s Presbyterian Church last night, which was presided over by Dr. Erwin, Moderator, Jt was unanimously resolved that a call be given to the Rcr. John Paterson, M.A., of Chalmers Church, Bedfern, Sydney. The. call was largely signed at tho meeting, and will bo at the churcji door for the next two Sundays for signature.
Messrs D. C. Burns (session clerk), 'J. Tnlloeh, and Georgo Burn, were appointed a commission to appear before the Presbytery in.support of" the call. Mr Paterson preached in St. Paul's last month in connexion with the jubilee of the church, and his preaching and the work done by him during tho fortnight he was in Christchurch found great acceptanco with the people of St. Paul's.
A natjve of Australia, Mr Paterson is 31 years of age, and is unmarried. Hβ has been in his present charge for three years, and before taking ovor the charge of Chalmers Church he spent three years at Broken Hill. Prior to that he was assistant minister first at Marrickvillo, and then at Burwood, Sydney. Mr Paterson ranks high as a preacher, scholar, leader, and organiser, and is spoken of by those who know him ac rj first-class man,- and one of the best of the younger preachers of Australia. Hβ takes a keen and direct interest in all, matters affecting the moral and social welfare of the community, and is especially interested in the Bible-in-;schools and No license questions. . ' In tho event of Mr Paterson accepfci>iE the call it is anticipated that he will arrive in Christchurch at tho beginning of August.
