NEW BRIGHTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of tho New Brighton School Committee was held last night, Mr C. H. Wiriny presiding. This being the first meeting of the new committee the chairman, before commencing the business of the evening, said ,ho was very gratified to see so many of tho old committee re-elected and at the same time he desired to congratulate the new members upon their election to the' committee. The resignation of Miss Jamioson as assistant mistress was accepted with regret. Mr J. H. Piper, manager of the State Express pictures, wrote offering to jjive o benefit entertainment in aid of school funds on or about tho wiltst instiint. Messrs C H. Winny, A. W. Owles and G. W. Bishop were appointed a subcommitteo to wait upon the management to make arrangements. Tlie headmaster in his report for the. fortnight ending May Ist. stated that the roll number had been as follows:— Total 410. Highest attendance 386. Average attendance of 370. (Adopted). Tho Grounds Committee in their report stated that tho school grounds wero generally in a bad state and needed immediate attention, a number of largo holes needing filling up. It was decided to apply to the Board of Education for twelve loads of clay in order that tin* necessary repairs might bo effected. It. was decided that an estimate he obtained for tho erection of a division fence. In view of Miss Jamieson's resignation and transference to another school it was decided to apply to the Education Board for tho appointment of a temporary teacher pending a per« manent appointment being made. It, vra> decided that tho matter of joining the School Co mini Hoes' 'Awociatiou be held in abeyance. Messrs A. P. Hopkins and H. Hawker were, re-elected a visiting committee.
