SYDENHAM PICTURES.

There-was a large attendance at the Sydenham Theatre last evening, when "The Prisoner of Zenda," Anthony Hope's dramatic masterpiece, was presented. On the eve of his coronation Rudolph, the weak King of Ruritania, finds himself a prisoner at Zenda. and in the power of Black Michael, an unprincipled member of the reigning house, who is plotting to secure the throne for himslf. In this dilemma the king's friends find Rudolph Ras•sendyll, a soldier of fortune, who bears a startling resemblance to the king. They urge him to impersonate the king and submit to be crowned. Rassendyll falls in love with the Princess Flavin, and. after a desperate struggle, decides to sacrifice his love and remain faithful to his oath to restore the king to his rightful throne. After a series of stirring adventures that duty is accomplished, and Rassendyll reveals his true identity to the princess, who, iv : heroic enunciation, sacrifices her own love because the welfare of her people demands that she rule in Ruritania. Other attractive pictures are:—The "Gaumont Graphic" (topical). "Tbe Frog, Salamander, and To*id" (nature), "A Bottled Romance" (comic). "Among the Eskimos of Siberia" (scenic), and "A Lesson in Jealousy" (comedy). The programme will be repeated "to-night.
