Hill, tried conclusions in a mile raoe, which ■ had been arranged as the result of * challenge by the former. The bath being the usual 25 yards in length, the mile was cub up into seventy laps and a distance of 10 yards.' Both BWiminers started with an easy swinging stroke, and kept on even terms Xor the' first twelve or fifteen lengths. Then Hill, going strongly, got n slight lead, which ho had increased to three or four yards' at tho quarteMnile. Going alone for tho reinainder of the distance, Hill gave a fine I display of swimming, his pace being quite fast enough for one or two fresh- swimmers .who. went a few lengths with him. At rx> time did he appear to tire,' and in the last few laps he visibly increased his Bpoed, and he finished very strongly, and apparently was quite fresh.
