MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
At thc monthly meeting of the Canterbury Christian Endeavour Union, tha president, tho . Roy. A. N. Scotter, waa in the chair. The president returned thanks for his election, and stated that, in his opinion, th* Churches of to-day were anxious to cater for the. spiritual well-being of young people, and tho institution of Christian Endeavour was for that purpose. It had proved itself a valuable adjunct to Church work. Affiliation was granted to tlie' Dunsandcl Senior Society, and information regarding new societies was received. A comprehensive scheme was arranged to ensure every society affiliated with th* Union being visited during the next month, and all were urged to strive and make the finances strong. A meetinp of the United Pigeon Fanciers' Club was held on Thursday evening, the president (Mr A. Smith) presiding. Tho secretary reported that the club spoons had been won during tlie past year by Mr G..Hales, magpies; Mr T. J. Dacombe, long-faced tumblers ; Mr "VV. Forgie, working homer lien; Mr F. Kinggford, working homer cock; -rir Arthur Mazey, young dragoon; and Mr_K. F. Stead, adult dragoon. , It was decided to again arrange the young bird shows for the first meeting in March. A general meeting of the Women's Christian Tempeyanco Union waa held on Wednesday. Mm* Blyth presided, in the absence of the president. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs J. Vcnablcs in her bereavement. Mrs T. E. Taylor, Miss Roberts, and Miss Bishop were elected delegates to the Annual Convention, to*be held m Gisborne shortly. It was decided to observe Frances Willurd Day %t the nest mooting of the Union.The Lily of Richmond Lodge of Druids held thoir fortnightly'meet ing on' Wednesday evening; Bro. F. Thome, A.D., in the chair. After transacting routine business, the Lodge adjourned for tho purpose of saying farewell to their late secretary, ,Bro. C. Carpenter, who ia taking up his residence in Timaru. There was a large attendance of members and visitors from neighbouring Lodges of the Order, including Bro. Burgess, D.G.P. Bro. Muchmore, D.G.V.P. Bro. Neate. D.G. Sec. Bro. Walker, D.G. Treas. Bro. Jowsey, and D.G.G. Bro. Wall. During the evening, District G.P. Bro. Muchmore, on behalf of the Lodge, presented Bro. Carpenter with a travel ling-rug and a gold medal, suitably inscribed, and Dis. V.P. Bro. Xcate asked Bro. Carpenter to accept, on behalf of Mrs Carpenter, a handsome handbag, as a small token of the Lodge's gratitude for many kindnesses. Bro. Carpenter liaving responded, and a number of brethren having contributed songs, recitations, etc., n very enjoyable evening closed with cheers for* Bro. and Mrs Carpenter.
