HAWKE'S BAY RAM FAIR.
(Pl__S ASSOCIATION TEUEGRAM.) HASTINGS, January 30. Tho annual ram fair under the auspices of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural' and Pastoral Society commenced on the Show grounds yesterday.. The entries totalled 6050, compared with 6222 last year. There was a representative attendance of buyers. There was only fair competition for Lincolns, but Southdowns were much more sought after, and prices ranged up to 13J guineas. A fair demand also ruled for stad Shropshire rams. Ther» was keen ■ rivalry for-a lino of eight Lmj «*»__ bred ov and sold on account of Mr G. V. _• earce, M.P., .Patea, at prices .ranging from 22 guineas to 62 g_iaeas; . . ~- " . . ' Xhft third annual stud ram sale of the Jfew Zealand Romuey _larsh. Sheep Breeders' Association was held in conjunction with the '-fair.. Forty rams were offered, 23 of which were .sold. Tho top nrice, 60 guineas, was paid by Mr J. Macfarlane for Carl Gordon 2nd, a 2-shear ram bred by .Mr- A. L. Wheeler (Halcombe). The fair was continued to-day. Bidding was dull- One or two lots, however, elicited keen competition. A. line bred by Mr E. Eghntqn, Featherston, realised from 4 guineas to 20 guineas. Other best sales were 11 guineas and 10 jsuraeaa.
