TIMARU MARKETS.
(SPECIAL TO "TIIE PRESS.") TIMARU, January 30. Millers and merchants are at present playing a waiting game. They decline to give 4s for old wheat, preferring to wait and see what the market for new wheat will open at. No samples of the latter are being offered yet, but wheat and flour-continue to come in from Australia, and it is predicted that the market will open at about 3s 6d for wheat and ls T 6d to l«5-7d for oats—a shade more perhaps for extra prime lines. At present there is practically nothing doing in wheat, though ono or two lines of new oate have changed hands at ls 6d at country. stations. Some farmers who refused 4s for old wheat are now trying to. sell at 3s 9d, but cannot get it. It was feared a few weeks ago that there was going to be a lot of damaged grain this harvest, but if the present ideal harvest weather continues the grain will bo got in in good condition. The potato crops that are being lifted are turning out well, and the tubers are worth £4 10s per ton to-day.
