LEESTON STOCK MARKET.
The attendance at yesterday's market at Leeston was very good, notwithstanding the fact that the harvest is at ita height. The entry of stock, too, was quite up to the average, and, with remarkably few exceptions, animals were brought in in-very "fair condition, and on the whole, the sale was a most satisfactory one. The entries comprised about 830 sheep (including 280-ewes, 560 lambs, and a small line of wethers), 279 pigs (141 fate, 138 stores), and 66 head of cattle. There was a fairly keen enquiry for fat lambs, but very few finished lambs were offered, most of the entry being forward stores. These, however, sold fairly well. Fat ewes showed no quotable change in values, but store sheep, lambs except ted, were rather easier. .'There was a" brighter tone about the fat pig market, prices, being a shade better than at some of the recent sales, while store pigs met with a brisk demand, and a very satisfactory sale resulted, prices showing some advance as the sale proceeded. It was evident that farmers had a good deal of milk and other feed to. spare. Fat and .dairy cattle remained much about the same as at the previous sale, but stores were rather easier, and twenty-five out of the total'entry of sixty-six cattle were passed. , The values ruling at yesterday's market were as follow:—Fat' lambs, 16s 8d to 178 3d; forward lambs, 14s to 15s 6d; fat ewes, 15s to 17s; 6tores, 12s Gd; fat woolly wethers, 26s (a line sent in by .Mr John McCartin); bacon pigs. 48s to 70s 6d, the latter price being obtained for a line sent in by Mr R. Duff * porkers 36s 6d to 44s 6d; choppers, to 775; large stores. 29s to 495: small, from 15s; fat cows. £6 2s 6d to £6 17s 6d: springers. £5 5s to £8 12s 6d; fat steers, to £9 2s 6d; hulls, to £9 2s_od; calves, 28s;.store cows, from £1 15s.
