NEW TYPE OF AEROPLANE

The "Daily Mail" states that tho flfar Office has designed a new type of • aeroplane equipped for the transport of a piiot and ten men, with a speed of a ciiJe a minute. ' LADY MAKES A TRIP WITH HAMMOND. (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, January 29. Lieutenant Hammond made a successful flight in tho Britannia last evening accompanied by Miss Esme Ale- ' Lelian, a visitor, who accepted the aviator's invitation on the spur of the Tho aeroplane ascended about 1000 feet and the flight was highly successful. MR SCOTLAND'S SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT. (TRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. January 29. Mr n. Scotland made a successful trial flight in his Caudron biplane at Otaki this afternoon. A largo crowd, * mostly Maoris, watched tho machine rise to a height of about 500 feet and circle about for half-an-hour, and then descend eently to the ground a few rards from the starting point. A speed of about sixty miles an hour was attained at times.
