'•'Javabode," says that Australia and New Zealand have made great sacir» Sees to place their defence forces on an officient footing. This defeoce ie chiefly directed against Japan; which is also Java's most likely foe of the futre. Their political interests, therefore to somo extent are identical. The article proceeds to suggest a defensive alliance between the Dutch Indies, Australia, and New Zealand, and adds:—"Once we possess a strong fleet our friendship, no doubt, will b* valued, and not only tho United States but also Australia and New Zealand* will probably welcome the suggestion of an alliance with us." The paper declares that a visit of Australia's new fleet would be welcome.
