NOTES.
Camulus is the name selected for Mr G. D. Greenwood's two-year-old colt by Martian from Lady Wayward 11. This colt is a half-brother to" Emperador but has not yet sported silk. His Excellency Lord Liverpool* has written to Mr A. I. Battnay, secretary of the New Zealand Metropolitan Club, intimating that he and Lady Liverpool will be present at the Club's February Mooting to be held on February 14th. Two of 11. J. Mason's team, Etoperador and Canute, have not returned from Wellington yet.. They are both engaged at Egmont, and probably will compete there before returning home. Mr G. l>. Greenwood has disposed of Counsel, the Vaseo —Silkerown gelding, who won the Trentham' Welter at the Wellington Meeting last week. Hβ is to be to Australia-almost immediately. . . . Imijortejd .stallions make a. great show in tljo winning , list in the Argentine. At the beginning of last month .Tardy (Franco) came first with nearly 38G.000 dollars to Jiis credit: Old Man swond, with close on 383.000 dollars; Cyllene (England) third with 284,000 dollars; Diamond Jubilee (England , * fourth, with -SoS.OOO dollars; Val d.Or A (France) fifth, with 179.500 dollars; Orange sixth, with nearly 170,000 dollars; and Po!ar Star (Ireland) seventh, with 134.000 dollars. _ Orange and Old Man are both, native-bred sires, by . imported Orhit out of daughters respectixely of Flageolet and Dollar. The field for the Egmont Clip is likely to "be small. Bon Ton will probably be 'an absentee, and Expect may be withdrawn in favour of Bronze (snys a "Wellington writer). Mention of Expect, reminds mo that the mishap which bofol him whilst at tho post for the Telegraph Handicap wae a mnch more serious matter than most of us were awaro of. The kick he received severed an artery, and when he returned to the birdcage blood was. sourting from the wriund copiously,. Without proper attention colt would not have lived another hfif-hour. Fortunately, however. Dr. Gilmer wns equal to the occasion, and successfully sealed the womid ■with a couplo of ■stitches,. this being tho firsf, time that Dr. Gilmer had ever been called upon to operate upon a racehorse.
