BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SUMNER. The Sumner Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr G. W. C- Smithson) and Crs. G. Brewer, T. B. Boulton, E. G. Wood, S. M. Stewart, E. A. B. Rankin, the Hon. J. Barr, and C. A. C. Preston. Prior to the ordinary meeting a special meeting was held to fix the weekly halfholiday, and Wednesday, as heretofore, was decided upon. The finance statement . showed t —District fund accouilt, dr., £2274 15s 7d; temporary loans account, £1742; gasworks loan account, cr., £71 13s 2d; gasworks revenue account, dr.. £186 5s lid; creek outlet loan account, cr., £1520 18s 4-d. The Works Committee recommended that the waterworks engineer's wages beancreased to £4 per week; that oil lamps be placed at the following places at Redclifi's forthwith: Marquet's corner, Main rot.*u, Celia street, about five chains from the Main road, Main road, opposite school, top of Monck's Bay Spur Steps and corner of Pratt etreet and the Main road, and that lamps be also placed at the following places as soon as practicable:—Corner of Cliff street and Main road, Bay View road, Pratt street, Monck's Bay Spur, opposite Wright's, Estuary road, opposite Adcock's, Causeway road, behind Cutting Rock. That the town clerk writ© to the residents asking them to economise in the use of the water supply, and to report any leakage or wast© occurring.—Adopted. The foreman estimated the "cost of completing the Sumner drain at £1520 4s 6d. It was decided to proceed with tho work on tho creek outlet until the amount standing to the credit of the loan account was expended. .It was resolved to take legal proceedings.apainst all owners of huts at Taylor's Mistake who havo i>t paid their fees for 1913. The Animal Protection Society wrote asking permission to take up a street collection on Gala Day.-—Refused. The Christchurch town clerk stated that Municipal Sunday would bo held this year on February Bth in the Durham street Methodist Church, and invited the members of th© Council, and staff to attend. —Invitation accepted. Mr S. Hurst Seager wrote forwarding a plan of the subdivision of "The Spur." Clifton for approval.—Referred to the Works Committeo. Duncan, Cotterill and Stringer advised that it was impossible for Mr Humphreys to legally dedicate a strip of land 10 feet wide for tho purpose*; of a public footpath within the borough.—Letter to bo forwarded to Mr Humphreys, and consideration of tho subject held over in the meantime. A. D. Paterson forwarded copy of a letter' he had sent to the Chief Postmaster, Christchurch, protesting against the slot telephone being placed at the side of the Post Office, and suggesting th*'' it be placed at the corner of Nayla'iT street and Euston street. —Post Office site to be adhered to-
