Reports from somo of tho freezing work Tin Canterbury, are to the effect that stock is not coming to hand in tne quantities that are usual at this stage of the killing season.. The heavy feed that sheep have had us said to be one of the reasons for this slackness. Hot weather, very suitable for harvest, prevails in South Canterbury and a great many crops are now in stook. One or two crops of oats have been threshed. On heavy land there is a great deal of straw this year, but the stalks are well headed, and it is anticipated that there will be some phenomenal yields, particularly ot oats. Barley has also done well this year. Last week the purchasers of fat lambs for transport by railway trom Culverden to one of the freezing works were disappointed in the usual promptness of the Department to meet quick despatch The lambs were trucked as speedily as possible on the Thursday afternodn, but were not got under way till Saturday. Since the carriage ot stock is an important one, and a paying PtSUtipn to the railway, no doubt this- delay will bo explained and that nt the'list Culverden sale the buyers of stock will not have reason to refer ta delays. ■' The committee of the Ch*™t A' and P. Association met last Saturday Mr T C. Robinson presiding. Mcssis R Smith, R. Barker, and G. Sansdm were elected members.
