HARVEST PROSPECTS.
WESTERN CANTERBURY.
Good progress is being made with tho harvest all through tho district from Chnstchurch to Springfield and Maivern. There is a large amount of crop to be seen along tho old West Coast road, and both wheat and oats are looking splendid. Oats are being cut — all directions, and stacks are to be , seen either being built or completed. The fine weather since Christmas has brought on the crops rapidly, and the oat crops are ripe as far back as the foot hills, while, wheat is everywhere changing colour, and some little has been cut. There has been an absence of strong winds this season, and there is therefore less anxiety to cut the crops on the green side.' Thero is no threshing from the stook to be Keen, but the low price of oats probably accounts for this. The yield throughout the district should be much above the average, as th-i wet season has suited the class of land that lies west of Christchurch. The'potato'crop, which is apparently not a heavy one, looks healthy.
