THE BEST ROADS YET.
9 TO TIIE EDITOR OF "THE HIESS." Sir, —As ono who .has ridden, driven, cycled, and motored over the roads of Ciuiitchun-h ior half a lifetime, 1 beg your permission to express my unbounded admiration of the tar-macadam that has been put down during the last fourteen years. It gives a surface like tliat of a weil-laid asphalt tennis court; yet this luxury to tho traveller involves no lack of durability, for tar-macadam stands very heavy traffic, ,as witness i'apanui road, and Oxford terrace by the Gas Office, constantly used by traction engines. Manchester street is another success. Tar-macadam also yields tho minimum of dust, and that alone ought to endear it to this generation, which has, I believe, swallowed more dust than the previous two generations all together, owing to tho advent ol the motor. That the Council will continue to lay down tar-macadam is the sincere wish of —Yours, etc., PROI»D OF MY CITY.
