' Quotations, unless otherwise specified, aro the average market prices on Mutton—There is a dull sale for all qualities of mutton. North Island 5d per lb; this season's best quality 5JdLast season's prices havo declined to 4-Jd. , ' Lamb— Canterbury, twos, 6*.d; quotations nominal; other than Canterbury, this season's, 7Jd. High prices are restricting business in the lamb market. Beef—The New Zealand stock is exhausted, and prices cannot be quoted. Chilled hinds, sd; fores 4d. 'Butter—The market is unchanged. Danish per cwt, 124s to 127; New Zealand 112s to 116s; Australian, 108s to 112s; Argentine, HOs to 112s; Siberian, 108s'to 112s. % . . Cheese—The market is steady, and prices aro well maintained. Hemp —The Manila marKet is firmer. "Reports from Manila indicate a firm market. There has been active buying on American account. Fair current, on spot, per ton £28 10s; January to March £'-'!). Tho output from Manila for the week was 21,000 bales. Tho New Zealand market is quiet, and small business is doing, chiefly at second hand. Dominion sellers are holding off. January to March, good to fair grade per ton, £26 10s; fair grade, £21 ss; February to April, about 5s more. jg,* sa l —The New York market is firmodfi sellers asking 5.75 cents. The latest quotation, per ton, is £27 10s to £23, according to quality. German East African ,"s in good demand, and prices are" firm in sympathy with other fibres. Second grade, per ton, £27 10s; third grade. £26 10s. . Tow—(A bettor tone prevails this week, and prices are'firm. Second grado. £12 os: third grade, £11 5s Co-ksfoot —The market is firm, and the demand limited to Danish, which can be obtained at 645. Average price, hnghl. clean New Zoaland seed, weighing 171b. on rpot. 55s 6d. p oas _Tho market is quiet but firm. March, to Anril shipments, New Zealand , Part rid gel, r>er 5041b, 445. Beans —English beans in good condition .ire selling freely, and there is a limited demand for other descriptions. New Zoaland beans, f.o'.q. (old crop), per 5011b. 3fis. Wool —Tho wool sales close to-day. Tho market has been strong, and the tone improved as the sales progressed. There has been a good demand from the Continent and the Homo trade is moro activo than during tho previous series. America has taken about 5000 bales, chiefly confined to best grades, medium and fine crossbreds. American buyers are expected to operate moro freely later on. Crossbreds improved from Jd to Id, chiefly owing to a temporary scarcity. Estimated values are:—Superior merinos, ls Id to Is 2d: medium. lOd to lid; inferior, 8d to 9"-d; fine crossbreds, all grades, is OJd to is 2d ; medium crossbreds, nil grades, 10jd to ll'd; coarse crossbreds. nil grades. Hid to lid. One thousand bales of New Zealand wool wero held over, nearly all old stock. The Bradford trade is gradually improving, with prospects of cheap money, and the outlook is favourable.
