EMPIRE TRADE.
VALUE OF COMMISSIONERS. ("Times"-Sydney "Sun" Special Cable.) LONDON, January 25. Before the Dominions Commission, Sir L. Smith, Permanent Secretary of the Board of Trade, gave evidence that he knew of important instances where trade which had passed to foreign competitors had been recovered through the aid of Trade Commissioners stationed in the Dominions. It vras not practicable to make the commercial intelligence system inter-Imperial. * Sir Edgar Vincent remarked that complaints had been made that lists of traders in the Dominions were not supplied to the Chambers of Commerce. Sir L. Smith replied that publication would enablo the lists to reach tho hands of foreign traders. It was preferable that application should be mado to tho Board of Trade by suitable persons.
