DASHED TO DEATH.
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, January 25. Lee Temple, an aviator, was killed at Hendon. After making a spiral flight he descended almost perpendicularly. He was too low to right himself, and a gust of wind overturned the monoplane and dashed it to tho grouud. Temple's neck was broken. A cablegram received on November 24th last said that Leo Tenipie, aged 21, ascended oOOUft in a monoplane at Hendoii, dived a thousand . feet, and then for six seconds kept the machine on its back. He lost control of the monoplane for a few seconds, and was in extreme danger until he was able to complete the S dive. SYDNEY AERIAL DERBY. (KIESS ASSOCIATION TELECBAM.) AUCKLAND, January 26. A cablegram on Saturday from oydney announced that Stone, of America, Jones of England, Hammond, of New Zealand, and tenfold, of Australia, were expected to compete in the Aerial Derby at Sydney next month. This morning Mr J. J. Hammond stated that he had heard nothing about the Aerial Derby_ at Sydney, beyond vua f , ho had .seen in the ncw&papors. Up to the present he had entertained no idea of going across to compete in any such event, but if an invitation were extended to him, he might consider it, providing satisfactory arrangements could be arrived at. "With such a machine as the Dominion monoplane Britannia, I would have little difficulty in attaining a speed of about ninety miles an hour by shortening the wiug tips, and making one or two other little alterations. That would be quite as fast as any of the machines in Australia could accomplish," ho said. "As a matter of fact. 1 do not think there is a machine in Australia that could equal the Britannia for speed."
