DARFIELD.
The past week lias been a busy one for the fanners; harvesting being general throughout tho district. The weather -was favourable, for although raia fell during several nights, the heat next day soon dried all moisture up. The crops have hardened up well during the last few days, and there should be a good harvest, as they look well laden. However, the price of oats being so low, viz. eight«enpenee, not much of it will bo disposed of yet, the
majority of fanners preferring to await the possibility of a rise. The llaihvav Department have decided to rebuild the station-house, and not before it is time, as the present house has been un for at least forty years, and is probably the oldest house in Dnrfield. It is to be sold for removal directly the new house is completed. The site for the new building is to be three or four hundred yards further up the line in the Springfield direction, as at present there is not enougli room for shunting operations and loading round tho goods shed. The road line will be taken further back, probably taking in part of tho old station-house garden. It is to be hoped that tho new house -will be in keeping with tho station which has been rebuilt within the last two years and is one of the finest country stations in Canterbury.
