CASUALTIES.

SUDDEN DEATH. An old lady, Mrs E. L. M. Goh], a widow seventy-two years of age, residing in St. Asaph etreet, died euddenly shortly before midday on Saturday. An inquest was held yesterday, and a verdict returned that death was due to heart trouble. Yesterday afternoon, a motor-cyclo and side-car driven by Mr \V. C. Ealhani, ran into Mr W. H. Zouch, who was at tho time riding a push bicycle. The accident took place just outside the Hospital, and Mr Zotich was immediately taken inside and attended to. He Was found to be suffering from rather severe bruises and cuts on the face and knee, but his condition was not serious enough to necessitate a stay in the institution. The driver of the motor-cycle states that he was travelling along his proper side of tho road and eounded the norn when approaching Mr Zouch. The latter, however, ewerved, and the collision followed. An inquest was held on Saturday, before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, Coroner, on the body of R. A. Ward, who committed suicide on Friday morning at Mr G. Rutherford's station, Waitohi Peaks. The deceased had been ploughman there for two years, and was about 30 years of age. A verdict of suicide while temporarily insane wae returned. At an early hour on Saturday a man named Graham was found lying at the foot of a steen bank near the gasworks at Lyttelton, having fallen from tho road above. He was unconscious, suffering from concussion of the brain. He was bleeding from the mouth and ears. The man, who had been drinking, was taken charge of by tho police, and was treated at tho gaol by the prison surgeon (Dr. Newell). . In the afternoon tho man's condition was such that* he was sent to the Christchurch Hospital. (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAMS.) WELLINGTON, January 24. A middle-aged roan, whose name is believed to have been George Henry, was picked up on tho road at thp Hutt yesterday, suffering from a fracture to tho skufl. He was admitted to the hospital, where ho died early this morning. HAWERA, January 24. Albert Merchall, a carrier, was accidentally killed this morning. While driving down hill close to Hawera, and endeavouring to pass a milk waggon, his cart struck a couple of boulders and overturned. Merchall, who was pinned underneath, sustained a fractured collarbone and had six ribs broken. He was breathing when the doctor arrived, but died a few minutes after. Deceased, who was a. single man, is believed to have no relatives in tho Dominion.
