TCOMAN ALMOST CUT TO PIECES. (By Cable.—Pkb* Association--Copyright.) SHANGHAI, January 23. Mrs Newman, the wife of a wealthy German butcher, was found in her bed- *°«& horribly mutilated. Her head was nearly severed from ier body. An arm was almost hacked off, and •weral fingers were severed, evidently f the quickest way of obtaining her *u>B? and jewellery. Her attackers also secured £4000 in e»Oßey. "f» Newman's husband is in a hosPitil. Mrs Newman was aJone with a Qunese boy, who is not suspected of «• crime. The mutilations were so jtarrible that some motive beyond rob*T is suspected.
