PORT-OF HOKITIKA.
A BUSY TIME. " • (THUS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.} HOKITIKA, December 8. .its a result of the closing of tho Grey trt, local shipping has peen busier Jm for years past. Hokitika port is ■ only one open on the "West Coast, nd supplies for Groyinouth and even
West-port have been landed here. Most of the vessels have brought full cargoes, which have been handled in record timo at a minimum cost. It is considered that tho strike will have the effect of attracting permanent shipping here, as cargoes are said to be.handled with more expedition than at the adjacent ports, and the improvement of the entrance to the harbour, as tho result of the Extension of the training walls, is so very marked as to allow of vessels of fair draught working the bar. There is an abundance of bunker coal available for steamers for some months to come.
